Merchee allows users to sell products, services, or subscription goods or services easily without an Internet storefront. The user will not have to set up a way to accept payments from customers or set up a merchant site.
Merchee was founded in October 2011 by Colin Holowaychuk. It is supported by ArizonaBay and angel investor Michael Sikorsky. There is no data available for site traffic or data. Holowaychuk is currently working on Merchee Plus with more options for users.
On Merchee, the checkout pages are customized to match the website design and branding. The site is relatively easy to navigate. The option for recurring charges for subscription services is unique. The fees are similar to other apps, with the exception of the additional $0.45 per transaction. For merchants selling items that are inexpensive this, on top of the 4.5% of the total amount earned, may feel like too much. Users should evaluate their costs in detail to ensure that the profit will be worth the effort and fees.
Once finished with the initial registration, the user must decide how to configure their payments: as recurring subscriptions or one time payments. Once chosen, the user is led to a simple form for product description, price, single delivery or ongoing subscription (such as for a membership), payment method (only Visa or Mastercard are offered, it would be nice if PayPal was integrated), a URL for a thank you page, and whether the user wishes to use testing mode for now without charging a credit card.
At this point in the process, a link is provided if the account is activated. The link may be copied and pasted into the website or shared on social networks through provided sharing links.
It is very simple to use, but would be more flexible if more payment methods were offered.
Users provide a company name, first and last name of the user, email address, and password. Once completed, the user is directed to set up a website profile as well as creating links to sell products and subscriptions. A welcome email with account activation link is sent immediately.
Merchee charges 4.5% and $0.45 per transaction. There are no set up or registration fees. Users receive payments from Merchee weekly on Thursdays via Electronic Funds Transfer directly into their bank accounts. Payments are sent weekly for transactions completed four weeks previously. In other words, payment for sales made during the first week of a month will be send on the first Thursday of the following month. There is four week delay between transaction and payment. This may be an issue for some vendors who prefer a shorter payment interval.
People who want to set up a way to sell services or merchandise on their website with custom branding and design, Merchee will work fine. Users should look closely at what they are selling, how much profit they will make per transaction after Merchee's fees, whether the four week gap between transaction and payment is acceptable, and whether they are comfortable only accepting Mastercard and Visa.
For those who feel they will yield an acceptable profit, Merchee will provide a valuable service.
